#3 closed defect (invalid)

dependence of cross section on JetFinder ycut

Reported by: ploscutoff@gmail.com Owned by: support@sherpa-mc.de
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: Unknown Version: 1.0.9

Description

I have been generating Z->ee + N={0,1,2,} parton events via Sherpa, but have noticed a significant dependence of my total interaction cross section on the value of ycut in the jetfinder algorithm of Selector.dat.

* JetFinder sqr(10/14000) 1

The ycut refering to sqr(10/14000) in this example.

Is there a default value that this parameter? If so, what is the basis for choosing it?

Attached are the .dat files used in my setup.

This has been answered by Frank Krauss by email, thus closing this bug in the bugtracker:

In fact this is not a bug, but a feature of the method, as outlined in both our manual and the corresponding papers. Basically, it is due to the fact that, after all, you are considering a LO cross section, with all imperfections and instabilities related to changes in factorisation scales etc..
